I’ve been wearing my Clifton 10’s for the last couple of weeks on various types of runs. My first impression was the fit was comfortable just standing in the shoe, but I did notice some discomfort on the tops of my feet after 3 or so miles. The shoe itself feels sturdy and my foot wasn’t sliding around at all which I have had issues with in the past in Hokas. I’ve struggled feeling like my shoe is hugging my foot in the right places and have had to do a heel-lock tie to prevent my ankle from slipping out of my shoe. The toe box fit slightly snugger than the Clifton 9’s but I size up almost a full size to size and a half in my running shoes because my feet tend to swell more than not during my runs.
Clifton’s are known for their cushion and this shoe is no exception. I feel full cushion in this shoe, but I’ll admit, the cushion isn’t necessarily “soft”. It is comfortable enough to get me through at least a 5-7 mile easy or recovery run, but I’d skip the Clifton 10’s for any speed workouts or tempo runs, as the cushion feels more heavy by the end of the run.
I have no serious complaints about the Clifton 10 as an every day trainer or even a walking shoe/errand day shoe. However, it wouldn’t be my first grab for a serious run or any run I am trying to focus on speed or furthering my distance.
